Grumeti River Camp, Western Serengeti - (Tanzania)

Location:

In the secret seclusion of an idyllic valley in the western corridor of the Serengeti, Tanzania, this splendid camp overlook a tributary of the Grumeti River which drains into Lake Victoria. Alive with hippo and crocodiles, the river is lined by tall riverine trees home to countless birds and troops of Colobus monkeys.

Accommodations:

Grumeti River Camp is an intimate assemblage of just 10 private tents, each with an en-suite bathroom, set in the shade of leafy branches. In this remote corner of the Serengeti plains, solar panels have replaced electrical power to eliminate noise and pollution. Here in the stillness, gourmet meals are served in the central dining area and adjacent bar.

Facilities:

The main living areas, including the pool, overlook the water lettuce-edged river. Wallow the lazy hours away in our tempting plunge pool, relax in our lounge and domed bar or wander through the curio shop. The spacious decks are perfect for sundowners overlooking the river. Solar panels have replaced electric power to eliminate noise and pollution. As twilight nears, watch the mystery of the day reinvent itself. Buildings come to life and shadows leap into wondrous shapes. Full of promise and discovery, Grumeti is ideal for honeymooners or for celebrating a special occasion.

At night, around a starlit banquet, you can regale one another with stories of the day's game sightings. Savor gourmet meals in our open-air boma (enclosed reeded area) or nearby open-fronted dining area. Fusions of sand and stone sparkle in the flickering boma firelight, merging with the shape and moods of the land. We offer delicious Pan-African cuisine - all meals at Grumeti are prepared on traditional "jikos" (fires) and stone ovens. Private dinners may be arranged for special occasions.

Game Viewing / Activities:

By day and night, guides drive guests into the Savannah woodlands and open Serengeti plains bursting with great concentrations of wildlife. Alongside the herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, giraffe and eland, this region boasts some of the highest densities of cheetah in Africa, huge prides of lions and solitary leopards.
