Jongumeru Safari Camp - Selous Game Reserve (Tanzania)

Location:

The Selous Game Reserve is one of the largest protected wildlife areas in the world and home to some of the biggest quantities and variety of animals and birds in Africa.

It has the world's largest number of big game, more than 120,000 elephants, 160,000 buffaloes and about 2,000 rhinoceros, In addition, the Selous contains Africa's greatest concentration of hippopotamus, crocodile and wild dog.

The Selous is a rare combination of woodlands, marshes, savannah and open grass plains, criss-crossed by many rivers, one being the mighty Rufiji River.

In this magnificent setting is Jongomero Camp, a luxury safari camp in Africa set under shady acacia trees on the banks of the Jongomero Sand River in the remote south-western sector of Ruaha.

Being the only Camp situated in this area of the Park ensures unmatched privacy.

Accommodation / Facilities:

Accommodation at Jongomero comprises eight large and well-appointed tents under enormous thatched roofs that also encompass a spacious private veranda.

The dining and living areas are both original and very comfortable offering a great vantage to take in the sights and sounds of the African bush that surrounds the Camp, as does the natural rock pool for those hot days.

Game Viewing / Activities:

At Jongomero we aim to show you the full variety of scenery, flora, fauna, and the different wildlife they support that make Ruaha so diverse and interesting.

From open plains to thick inhospitable bush, from the tranquil river scenes to great herds of buffaloes enveloped in clouds of dust as they make their way through the acacia woodlands.

Our team of qualified guides will design your daily wildlife viewing program to both suit you, the changing seasons, and the movements of wildlife ensuring you the best possible experience whilst in Ruaha, by whatever means is most appropriate.

Old Africa hands will tell you the best way to experience the African wild is on foot. The camp will oblige with walking safaris accompanied by a qualified guide.

These are overnight expeditions on foot with a lightweight mobile camp. This option must be pre-booked.
