Matetsi
Game Lodges - (Zimbabwe)
|
Location:
Occupying 50 000 hectares
adjacent to the mighty Zambezi River, Matetsi represents a triumph for
conservation, consolidating former hunting concessions
into one of Africa's most magnificent game viewing sanctuaries where
wildlife can thrive under protection. Here, just 40 kilometers west of
Victoria Falls, 50 000 hectares of unspoiled paradise is home to vast
herds of buffalo, elephant and sable which range freely between
Botswana and Zimbabwe throughout an unfenced area of immense size.
With its 15 kilometers of Zambezi River
frontage, Matetsi offers a river experience of both adventure and
great tranquility - and it is here, overlooking these mighty river
waters, that Matetsi Water Lodge is sited. Inland the Matetsi
wilderness embraces a vast seasonal wetland where great herds of
buffalo, zebra and elephant congregate alongside water birds of
every description. |

Matetsi Water
Lodge:
Fronting the mighty Zambezi shoreline lies
Water Lodge - a tribute to the legendary Nyaminyami, guardian of the
river, who dwells beneath the thundering mist of the Falls. This
synthesis of stone, glass and thatch perches under Mangosteen and
Waterberry trees and comprises three small, exclusive camps of six
suites each. Three riverside camps,
each with six double en-suite rooms, overlooking the tranquil Zambezi.
Each suite is air-conditioned with its own private plunge pool. The
design and decor are uniquely African, whilst reflecting the textures
and moods of the Zambezi River with the use of natural slate, teak
wood and soft denim furnishings. Facilities include a reception and
dining area with split-level vantage points overlooking the Zambezi
River. |

Safari Camp:
is a tribute to those who first braved the marauding lions and wild
terrain of these plains.
Set at the edge of an open grassland system
abounding with wildlife, this 12 suite, 24-bed camp under canvas sets
new standards in elegance, complete with air-conditioning and modern
conveniences. Here, in the canvas shade of luxury tents, guests can
watch the procession of buffalo, elephant and other wildlife which
congregates at water pans just meters from the camp.
Here, an abundance of
carnivores, from wild dog to lion, cheetah, leopard and spotted hyena,
compete in a life-and death struggle for the spoils of prey. Facilities
include a reception and lounge / dining area with swimming pools and gift
shop. |
