Mwagusi Safari Camp - Ruaha National Park (Tanzania)

Location and description:

Mwagusi Safari Camp is a well appointed tented camp, owner - run by Chris Fox, who was born and bred in the region. With over 30 years experience in the Ruaha, Chris and his enthusiastic team are your welcoming hosts.

The camp, built in keeping with traditional African style is nestled into the banks of a sand river and ideally situated in the middle of the part of the park where wildlife is most concentrated.  From the minute you touch down at the local airstrip the adventure begins. Experience a wide variety of wildlife in this unique overlap of Eastern and Southern African ecosystems, which supports a vast wilderness, rich in fauna and flora. .

Within 45 minutes drive from camp, more than 80 species of animal and over 480 species of bird can be seen. Absorb and marvel at the sites, sounds, and smells of the African bush, heightened by the experience of viewing from open 4WD vehicles, and on foot accompanied by an armed guide, or from the seclusion of your veranda. Most guests report that a stay at Mwagusi is never long enough. Five to seven days is appropriate for a first visit. Many repeat visitors stay longer.

"Most people I mentioned Ruaha to had never even heard of it. Keep it that way. Whisper it's name very, very, quietly, and only to those you know and trust. It is wild, unsophisticated, little visited. It is on no-ones route to anywhere. You come only because you love the Ruaha. The place to stay is Chris Fox's Mwagusi Safari Camp. Mwagusi has that sense of intimacy, of quiet, of being surrounded by bush, which are the hallmark of the camps I love best.
