Malilangwe Private Game Reserve (Zimbabwe)

(Nduna Camp is currently closed until further notice)

Location:

Nduna Safari Lodge is an exclusive and luxurious safari lodge situated on the Malilangwe Reserve which is the largest single privately owned nature sanctuary in Zimbabwe.

The 100 000 acre Malilangwe Reserve borders the Gonarezhou National Park in the south east Lowveldt of Zimbabwe. It has the widest variety of wildlife in Zimbabwe and over 400 species of birds have been recorded. The high concentration of raptors makes it second to the Matobo Hills, which is considered to be the best in Africa.

Accommodation:

Nduna Safari Lodge is set against a dramatic backdrop of sandstone cliffs overlooking a picturesque lake. There are 6 individual air-conditioned lodges of stone under thatch. Each lodge has a full en suite bathroom and a private veranda with views of the lake. With a maximum of 12 guests, Nduna Safari Lodge offers every attention to detail and highly personalized service - perfect for those who want to get away from it all and enjoy a luxurious and exciting safari on a private game reserve.
Nduna Safari Lodge is an intimate camp with five twin-beds and one double bed lodges, each with its own en-suite bathroom equipped with separate bath and shower, toilet and hand basin.

The thatch and stone lodges are fully air-conditioned, have ceiling fans, a mini bar fridge and a personal tea/coffee unit. Each lodge has a private game viewing veranda overlooking the lake.

Facilities:

The central complex has a bar, lounge and reading area. Most meals are served on a shady deck under a canopy of trees, on the edge of a rocky outcrop, overlooking the lake. Nduna has always taken great pride in the high standard of its cuisine. Everyday the chef produces a full English breakfast, a delicious light lunch and a gourmet 3-course dinner.

A natural rock plunge pool alongside the lake, is a popular spot for guests to relax and cool off from the midday sun.

Game viewing / Activities:

The wide range of animals includes the Big 5 - lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino - hippopotamus, cheetah, hyena, giraffe and Burchell's' zebra as well as impala, roan, sable and Nyala antelope.

Rare species include the painted hunting dog, Lichtenstein's hartebeest. The area is thought to be the only place in Africa where one can see the Small 6 - a unique combination of little antelope which includes the gray duiker, Sharpe's grysbok, steenbok, klipspringer, oribi and Livingstone's suni. A wide variety of activities are available to guests at Nduna Safari Lodge.

Although Nduna offers early morning and late afternoon activities everyday, there is no rigid program, and activities tend to be planned around the individual wishes of the guests. All activities are included in the daily tariff, except tours off the Malilangwe Estate, which are charged for separately. Weather depending, the following activities are normally available:

Game Drives

Game drives with licensed guides in comfortable open top 4-wheel drive vehicles are extremely popular at Nduna. Drives are normally offered in the early morning and late afternoon, the best time for game viewing, enabling guests to see the large variety of wildlife and birds on the Malilangwe Reserve.

Game and Birding Walks

Walks with fully licensed professional guides are a highlight of the Nduna experience. There can be few better places for a wild walk than among the Malilangwe sandstone features or along the riverine forests of the Chiredzi or Runde rivers.

A system of hides, blinds and watering holes has been introduced to enable guests to enjoy a close encounter with the wildlife. Specialist birding excursions can also be arranged.

Canoeing

Relaxing and safe canoeing in 2-3 man Canadian canoes is offered on the lake in front of Nduna Safari Lodge. This is an excellent way to view animals and birds coming down to drink on the shores of the lake.

Fishing

Fishing enthusiasts will love Nduna. Fishing for bream (tilapia) for the camp dining table is a popular pastime at Nduna. The Lodge provides fishing equipment.

Bushman Paintings

Special walks can be arranged to see the San (bushmen) paintings which have been located in the sandstone hills on the reserve. The area is rich in these bushmen paintings and several outdoor galleries are to be found in the caves and rocky outcrops.

Golf

The nearby Triangle, Hippo Valley and Mkwasine Golf Clubs are all less than one hours drive from Nduna. These local courses,   two of which have been highly recommended in international publications,   offer some of the finest and most inexpensive golf in the country.
