Rufiji River Camp - Selous Game Reserve (Tanzania)

Location:

The Selous Game Reserve is Africa's largest covering 55,000 sq. km. of unspoiled wilderness and containing almost three quarters of a million wild animals including the world's largest elephant population.

Accommodation:

Rufiji River camp is a tented camp situated in the north eastern part of the Selous on a high bank overlooking the mighty Rufiji River and the plain beyond. The camp accommodates guests in 20 very comfortable tents.

Each tent has twin bed with mosquito nets, completely equipped private bathroom and comfortable verandah facing a magnificent view.

The central restaurant provides excellent exotic and international cuisine. A well equipped bar gives the guests a wide choice of beverages.

Game Viewing / Activities:

Besides walking safaris and 4wd car excursions, a major attraction is the Boat Trip along the Rufiji River and the adjoining lakes where hippo, crocodile and 400 species of birds can be observed. Sport fishing facilities are available. The program of excursions is decided once at the camp, between the clients and the Camp Manager. A few factors have to be considered, like the state of the roads in the Reserve, the level of water on the river, the presence of animals around the camp, etc, and for these reasons a schedule cannot be given in advance, at the moment of the booking.

Morning excursions are from 8/8.30 to 11.30/12.00.
Afternoon excursions are from 16.00 to 18.30.
Full day game drives with picnic lunch are from 8.00 to 17.00.

The choices of activities and excursions normally include:
Game drives: accompanied by highly experienced rangers, experts of the Selous Game Reserve and its animal behaviors. The destinations are quite varied: normally directed towards one or more of the lakes where the animals group to drink, the itinerary and timing are decided at the moment by each group on the basis of the animals encountered and the specific interests of the guests without limits.
A normal jeep safari lasts half-day, but a full day safari can easily be arranged.
