Located on the remote Medjumbe Island - one of the many islands making up the Quirimbas Archipelago in Northern Mozambique - Medjumbe Island Resort is an intimate island resort, the ideal Mozambique island getaway for those who wish to experience exclusivity and privacy on a remote tropical island.

Rates:

(Depending on season): From USD 288 - USD346 per person sharing per night. Rates are based on a per person basis including breakfast, dinner, non-motorised watersports, return island transfers from Pemba to the resort and government taxes.

Location

Situated in the magnificent Quirimbas Archipelago, Northern Mozambique, Medjumbe Island is 800 metres in length and 350 metres wide - a magical destination with private beaches and countless coves to be discovered and blissful surroundings to be experienced

Accommodation

The Medjumbe Resort accommodation consists of a total of 13 thatched chalets with en-suite bathrooms fitted with indoor shower and separate bath as well as a private outdoor shower. All chalets are beautifully furnished and are equipped with air conditioning, outdoor hammock, ceiling fans, fully mosquito screened, hair dryer, mini bar, personal electronic safe, satellite TV and the convenience of tea/coffee making facilities.

The restaurant serves meals both inside and on an outside deck. There is also a lounge and bar.

Activities

A range of scuba diving courses are offered at Medjumbe Island Resort from Discover Scuba, Open Water and Advanced Open water. Whether you are a novice or experienced diver, you can experience the magic of scuba diving in the Quirimbas. All courses are conducted in accordance with PADI using PADI-specified materials.

The game fishing in the waters surrounding Medjumbe Island includes Kingfish, Barracuda, Dorado, Queenfish, Serra, Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna and Sailfish.

Other Activities on offer at Medjumbe Island Resort

All motorised activities must be booked the previous day to ensure availability and that equipment is prepared and ready for use. The non-motorised equipment is kept at the Activity Center just below the restaurant and does not require pre-booking. All these are on a first-come fist-served basis. Alternatively, simply enjoy a gentle stroll around the island, enjoying the sights and sounds of this idyllic tropical island.

Watersports
Water-skiing and tubing is presented from our Gulf Craft 20’ Swan. Slalom, Tandem, Wake- and Knee- Boards are available. All motorised watersports will depart as indicated by the Activities Manager, as the tide and wind predicts the most suited launching area. Safety equipment can be custom-fitted at the Activities Center.

Snorkeling
The waters off Medjumbe Island are of such a superb standard that you need not be a scuba diver to enjoy the amazing diversity of the marine riches. There are a number of excellent sites where snorkellers will be able to appreciate the stunning tropical reefs, whales, dolphins, marine turtles and other exotic marine life. Self-guided snorkeling takes place off the beach to the coral areas and sand flats; guided snorkeling to the reefs by boat. All equipment is custom-fitted at the Activities Center. You may keep your mask and fins for the duration of your stay.

Other Activities

Whale watching & dolphin spotting
Whale watching in the passage or outer areas occurs during August to November. Dolphin spotting takes place throughout the year, normally combined with a snorkeling excursion.
Beach games
Volleyball, beach tennis, badminton and kiddies sand building castles are available from the Activities Center.

Swimming pool
Lounge next to the pool at ‘Bahari Bar’. Food and beverages can be ordered from the staff.

Stargazing
The clear skies above the island are ideal for stargazing. As there is no interfering artificial light from nearby cities nor any pollution in the skies to contend with – this is the perfect place to lie back and study the celestial treasures above Medjumbe Island.
Kayaking
A range of single and double kayaks are on offer to our guests. Our staff will assist you with safety and paddling equipment. Guests enter and exit the water in front of the Activities Center, or as arranged by the Activities Manager. Enjoy self-guided excursions around the island or across the channel to Quissanga’s Reefs.


Sailing
Self-guided sailing options include a Hobi 16 and a Gypsy Sailing Dinghy. Our staff will gladly hoist the sails and assist you.
Windsurfing
Enjoy the breeze on one of our Starboard Windsurfers. Our staff will rig the board and provide you with guidance. Windsurfing is restricted to high tide.

Sunset Cruise
Sunset cruises provide the perfect form of relaxation after a long day. Enjoy a cruise on our various routes as dictated by the tides and wind. Snorkeling may be included in the cruise.

Bird watching
Rarely seen species of birds, a vast range of Palaearctic migrants and a variety of Waders species, can be seen around the island and tidal pools.

Best time to travel

The best time to visit Mozambique is the months of June to August, when both rainfall and temperatures are at their lowest.

Getting there

The island is accessed from Pemba by light aircraft transfer, a mere 40 minute flight which is included in the rate. Alternatively from Matemo Island resort, a 20 minute flight.
