Day by Day Overview
Fly from Johannesburg to Livingstone where you will be met and transferred to the Royal Livingstone Hotel 5 minutes away. Nestled in the forested banks of the Zambezi River and a few paces away from the mighty Victoria Falls The expanse and depth of the Victoria Falls are awe-inspiring, and rising above is the 'Smoke that thunders' or the rolling mist generated by the force of the plummeting water.
Two story clusters of air-conditioned, en-suite rooms and suites, trace the river bank, each with a private balcony from which to survey the wildlife activity on the banks of the river. With each cluster consisting of ten en-suites, the décor of the Royal Livingstone Hotel evokes memories of a bygone era. High tea on the terrace, an abundance of roses (Zambia is one of the largest exporters of roses), cream linen and lots of silverware, speak of colonial indulgence.
There are plenty of activities on offer at the Falls, such as sunset cruises, jet boating, helicopter or microlight flips over the Falls, Livingstone Island tours.
As it's name suggests, Savute Elephant Camp is known for the herds of elephants that can be spotted roaming its plains But other large animals also gather here especially now that the intermittent Savute Channel has started flowing through Chobe National Park once again after an absence of nearly 30 years.
The luxury accommodation in Savute Elephant Camp offers an oasis amid the beautiful plain. All the luxury tents are housed on raised wooden platforms, offering great views, and shaded by a traditional African thatch roof. The large private decks are furnished with easy chairs and a hammock, ideal for viewing wildlife, or for enjoying a private dinner in complete privacy.
The tent interiors are luxuriously appointed with an en suite bathroom, mini bar, four poster bed with mosquito netting as well as a discreet air conditioning. Sundowners are served in the Fish Eagle Bar, renowned for its romantic setting, and meals are served outdoors. Other facilities at Eagle Island include a lounge and library, and a swimming pool.
From April through October the camp offers a choice of game viewing by mokoro (traditional dugout canoe), or in motorised boats, combined with walks on the surrounding islands. In season, late afternoon romantic Sundowner cruises are offered on the surrounding lagoon. When water levels are low (December through April), morning, afternoon and evening game drives are offered, giving guests the opportunity to further explore the surrounding islands. For the more adventurous, safari walks are offered all year round.
San Camp is situated in the rugged wilderness area on the border of the Makgadikgadi Pans in the Kalahari, forming an oasis in this harsh, yet beautiful, environment. The concession is private allowing you to enjoy night drives, walks & complete privacy.
The camp is one of the few to retain a classic 1940s safari style, with Persian rugs, crisp cotton linen and mahogany furniture creating a distinctly colonial feel.
You may participate in various activities at San Camp by combining wildlife with culture, history, archaeology and geology, creating a memorable experience.
Interact with the friendly meerkats, walk with Bushmen Guides, game drive to experience fantastic desert wildlife, visit Chapman's Baobab - one of the oldest and biggest trees in Africa, go bird-watching and on thrilling night drives. During the dry season activities include quad biking across the saltpans
