If you are lucky enough to be travelling in Whale season (August - November) taking the very scenic and slightly longer Coastal Meander to Grootbos is a must. Grootbos is situated 13km outside the hamlet of Stanford with stunning views across the Atlantic Ocean.

A 3 night stay here allows you to really experience everything the reserve and the area has to offer. Besides your luxury 5 star accommodation in Forest or Garden Lodge, there are a wide variety of diverse activities for you to get involved in.

There are resident specialist guides leading drives and walks through the reserve. They are qualified in the Cape Floral Kingdom, archaeological and cultural sites, local Birds and mammals and the interactions that occur as a result of this diverse ecology. There is Shark Cage Diving, Whale Watching, Horse Riding on deserted beaches and an abundance of Wine Farms surrounding this nature rich area.

Set off after breakfast and break from the traditional highway to take the less travelled Route 62. You pass through inland quaint villages like Barrydale and also have the opportunity to take on an ostrich ride in Outdshoorn before you turn towards the coast and head to George and Knysna.

You will find Phantom Forest tucked away in the forest at the foothills of the spectacular Phantom Pass, just 7km from Knysna.

You have a choice of a 3 hour drive to Port Elizabeth and a short flight back to Cape Town to connect with your outbound International flight, or you can take the traditional N2 highway back to Cape Town to connect with your flights.
