  • Ndali Lodge

Set in the stunning Bunyaruguru Crater lake region of western Uganda, Ndali Lodge is nestled in a prime stretch of this country which is known as the "Cradle of the Nile". As one of Africas most prolific wildlife enclaves, Uganda has an immense variety of fauna and flora, and spectacular scenery to boot. Ndali Lodge is at the heart of 1 000 acres of privately owned fertile farmland which is still cultivated according to traditional methods.

Not many lodges can claim that they are perched on the rim of an extinct volcano which is now filled with water - the awe-inspiring Lake Nyinambuga - and this is but one of Ndali Lodge's many charms. The thatched lodge comprises a spacious lounge, reception area and dining room as well as 8 luxurious cottages, which face west and offer panoramic views of the "Mountains of the Moon" (Rwenzori). Built with local stone and thatch, each cottage is comfortably furnished; big enough to accommodate a family; and has an en-suite bathroom as well as a private veranda - for watching sunsets and the magnificent mountains.

Although Ndali Lodge has no electricity or generators, there are solar lights in all the cottages, while the main areas retain a magical tranquillity and atmosphere.

In the evenings, dinners at Ndali Lodge are given a touch of magic when the dining room is lit up with many candles, while full breakfasts on the veranda are hearty with freshly baked breads and wild honey. There is often freshly squeezed passion fruit juice - courtesy of the ample vines. The lounge, reception and dining rooms open out onto Lake Nyinambuga and are connected by open passageways or "breeze-ways" - and guests would be delighted to find that they are not only for human use and that fruit bats, owls and frogs like to use them as a highway to the crater lake. Activities at Ndali Lodge include guided walks around the farm and to the Mahoma Waterfall, and swimming in the lake or the pool and enjoying views of banana, vanilla and coffee plantations.

Ndali Lodge is the perfect base for visits to local historical and wildlife attractions as well as an en route stop between Queen Elizabeth National Park and the famous Murchison Falls National Park.
