  • Saruni

Guests hardly need to leave the lodge to view wildlife, observing elephant, leopard and buck from the comfort of the vast cedar beds in the privacy of their own cottage at Saruni. Persian carpets, African art and polished wooden floors give an informal elegance to the decor.

Italian bathroom fittings and hot and cold running water are given an African flavour by a canvas front which can be opened for a shower with a view. The huge fireplace is the focal point of Kuro House, the common dining area where guests gather before sampling superb meals and enjoying conversation in the company of the guides.

The exceptional cuisine reflects Italian owner Riccardos passion for food, second only to his passion for his adopted home. A collection of rare books is housed in the secluded Saruni library for guests to enjoy at their leisure.
The professional Masai guides bring safaris to life, with their wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm, in the comfortable open Landrovers or on foot. Whether it is the season of the annual wildebeest migration or not there is plentiful wildlife and birdlife to see: secret corners, unvisited by other vehicles, a gourmet lunch deep in the forest or overlooking a beach of hippos. Here the safari experience is not about ticking the Big 5 off a list, but of observing wild animals and learning about them and their place in nature without any rush.

The three tents, sleeping six, at Saruni Wild tented camp offer a further in depth bush experience with elephant tracking and night drives to deepen guests understanding of this exquisite environment.  Saruni Wild is booked on an exclusive-use basis.

The Masai Wellbeing Space is a private spa cottage hidden away in the valley where guests can enjoy professional massage treatments in a serene environment on this unique African safari.
