Kiwayu. Set on the mainland across from the Lamu archipelago's northernmost island, Kiwayu Safari Lodge is a luxurious beach resort in one of Kenya's remotest and most pristine corners. Kiwayu is just about as far from the madding crowds as you can get, and the lodge combines the perfect dose of hedonism with the raw beauty of an African coastal wilderness: It is relaxed and informal, yet elegant and luxurious; close to nature, yet providing five-star comfort, service and facilities.

Constructed from mangrove poles, palm thatch and woven matting and walls according to local Bajuni custom, the lodge's eco-friendly cottages have been designed to blend in fluidly with surrounding sand dunes and coastal vegetation.

The spacious chalets have king-size double or twin beds, mosquito nets, electricity, an en-suite bathroom and balconies kitted with hammocks and offering magnificent sea views.
The large bar and dining area is characterised by distinct Swahili influences and an eclectic, bohemian flair: palm-frond mats and plush day beds scattered with vibrantly-hued cushions are mixed in with driftwood and antique furniture; a high thatch roof and open sides revealing the ocean and beach beyond.

Here you can sample the superb cuisine for which Kiwayu Safari Lodge has earned a reputation: with an array of Mediterranean, African and fusion dishes to choose from.

The region is known for its secluded location, emerald rainforests and exquisite white beaches - devoid of crowds and lapped by the temperate waters of the Indian Ocean. Life here centres on the sea, and guests at the lodge can participate in an array of water sports, including wind-surfing, sailing, skiing, snorkelling and scuba diving.
