There are 2 distinct areas to the battlefields so depending on your interests you may find one area more relevant for you than the other. Some famous names who took part in these historical moments and helped define South Africa's course are Winston Churchill, Mahatma Ghandi, General Louis Botha and the ultimate Zulu warrior and King - Shaka Zulu. Battles like "The Battle of Blood River" or the "Battle of Isandlwana" have unbelievable stories of courage, bravery and valour behind them. Listen to experts rein act these amazing scenes and feel like you too are part of the legend.
Imagining the conditions of battle long ago while sitting on your veranda or deck overlooking the valleys and hills is a very humbling experience. It is also very picturesque. Undulating landscapes, rocky outcrops, lone forts and small graveyards, indigenous aloes with their deep red flowers and the whispers of by gone eras.

Natal accommodation options vary from traditional Zulu homes to luxury lodges like Fugitives Drift, or the warm hospitality of a traditional colonial farmhouse at Three Trees Hill Lodge. If you are not only interested in Battlefields and find yourself spending a night or 2 in the area, the majestic Drakensburg is the backdrop and provides scenic walks.
