Day by Day Overview
Day 1 - 3: Sossusvlei, Kulala Wilderness Camp
Arrive in Windhoek, your guide will meet you at the Airport. Travel by vehicle to Kulala Wilderness Camp in the Sossusvlei Area. This is approximately a 5 hour drive and there will be a lunch stop en route. Enjoy the awe-inspiring views!
Kulala Wilderness Camp lies at the foot of a mountain facing west there by catching the magnificent Namibian Sunsets. This area is famous for its light and the endless photo opportunities this creates. The camp is small with only 9 tents elevated on wooden decks to make full use of the expanse of wilderness in front of you.
Activities in this area include sunrise drives into Sossusvlei to watch the lighting up of the massive red dunes. Dead Vlei is one of the most photographed and hostile places in the country. Nature walks, scenic drives and learning about the amazing adaptation of plant and animal life to this harsh environment, are some things to keep you busy in this timeless place.
Day 3 - 5: Swakopmund, Hansa Hotel
Today you will drive to Swakopmund via canyons and moon-like landscapes. You arrive in this German inspired coastal town in the late afternoon and check into the Hansa Hotel.
The Hansa Hotel is said to be one of the oldest buildings in Swakopmund dating back to 1905. It forms a part of the architectural culture that is so prevalent here. The hotel is centrally located so makes for easy walking when exploring the inner streets and alleyways of this Atlantic town.
Activities here are varied with the desert and ocean on your doorstep. Your day in Swakopmund will be spent exploring the coastline and all it has to offer. Enjoy a private boat cruise from Walvis Bay providing unique chances to see birdlife, Cape fur seals and dolphins.
Day 5 - 6: Damaraland, Damaraland Camp
Today we travel partly up the legendary Skeleton Coast before heading inland to Damaraland. We overnight at the remote Damaraland Camp. A small and intimate camp accommodating 10 guests in comfortable tented rooms - the amazing thing to take in here is the stark desert beauty of this harsh terrain.
This is a truly unique area with the clash of the early morning mists coming in from the Atlantic and the warm desert air - the flora and fauna and desert life have adapted to these unique conditions. Explore the area by foot, mountain bike or 4 x 4 - look for wildlife, ancient San Rock Art, petrified forests or generally just enjoy the starkness and beauty of your endless surroundings!
Day 6 - 8: Damaraland, Desert Rhino Camp
Today you will head north-west to the massive Palmwag Reserve, a 1 million-acre private concession between the Skeleton Coast National Park and Etosha. This is about as private and wilderness experience as you can get!
Spend 2 nights at Desert Rhino Camp. The camp consists of 7 large Meru style tents all with en-suite bathrooms.
Activities in the area include fantastic game viewing and bird watching. There are a few freshwater springs in the reserve which help support healthy population. You can find plains game, desert adapted rhino and elephants, although elusive, can also be spotted. The reserve has the largest concentration of predators outside of Etosha. Tracking the Rhino on foot or by vehicle is a highlight of any stay here and these desert adapted creatures are monitored and protected by the Save the Rhino Trust.
Day 8 - 10: Etosha, Ongava Tented Camp
Transfer today approximately 350km to Etosha National Park. You will actually be staying in a private concession which borders Etosha called Ongava Private Reserve. This is a wildlife reserve in its own right but game viewing will also be done in the Etosha National Park.
Spend 2 nights at Ongava Tented Camp tucked away in a hidden valley at the foot of a dolomite hill. 10 comfortable walk-in tents all with en suite bathrooms and private veranda's look out onto the bushveld. Enjoy great views of wildlife migrating to the nearby waterhole.
Day and night game drives take place in the private Ongava Reserve. Take day trips into Etosha for viewing of the massive herds that frequent the salt pans and its plains, and the predators that follow.
Day 10 - 13: Skeleton Coast, Skeleton Coast Camp
Today you enjoy one of the most scenic flights in the world over the dramatic desert landscapes to the exclusive Skeleton Coast Research Camp. The camp is located in a private concession in the Skeleton Coast National Park. This is desolate and uninhabited territory!
This is a completely unique experience that cannot be found anywhere else on the planet! Roaring sand dunes, windswept plains, towering canyons and saltpans to seal colonies and shipwrecks and the local Himba tribes - your days of filled with 4 x 4 adventures in this hauntingly beautiful lonely place.
The Camp consists of six Meru style tents set out along the banks of the Hoarusib River. Tents are spacious with en-suite facilities, dining is open air and you get to enjoy one of the most spectacular settings in Africa!
