Romantic and exclusive, Tongabezi is nestled on the banks of the Zambezi River upstream from the Victoria Falls.
There is a choice of accommodation ranging from the lovely River Cottages to the fabulous Houses where guests can enjoy the services of their own valet.
Some of our guests combine a stay at Tongabezi with a stay at its sister property, the exclusive and serene Sindabezi, which is just a short boat ride away. Featuring only five open-sided thatched luxury cottages, the lodge is all about privacy and authentic experiences, and the fact that all the cottages enjoy amazing views of the Zambezi River as well as its floodplains make it all the more special.
The first chalet is the only one set on the Zimbabwean side of the island and has wonderful views of the Victoria Falls National Park, while the second and third chalets are tucked away on the northern banks of the river. The fourth unit is perfect for spotting hippos. All the chalets have heated showers, “loos with views” and are set on wooden walkways.
The new addition at Tongabezi is a chill out area called ‘The Hangout’ where the cosy African fusion design invites you to curl up with that book you’ve always wanted to read…overhanging the river!
The much-coveted honeymoon chalet is situated on a secluded sandy beach and has all the trimmings to ensure an unforgettable stay. The generously sized clawfoot bath can easily accommodate two and thanks to the entire island being subtly lit with traditional hurricane lamps, romance is not in short supply.
Optimising views, the main dining area is set on an elevated deck in the trees, and the whole camp is serviced by state-of-the-art solar panelling.Stargazing is a particularly popular pastime in this stretch of wilderness.
Guests can enjoy boat trips to deserted islands for unique picnic lunches and sunrise and sunset boating trips are musts – as are the guided canoeing excursions. Guided walks around the falls and its gorges are also offered.
At night, this camp is especially enchanting, with dinners taking place under the stars, the sounds of hippos wallowing entertaining guests and the presence of the river providing complete tranquillity.
