Until quite recently Botswana was largely undiscovered by international travellers. And then a couple of pioneering adventurers ventured into the wild, established rustic camps in beautiful locations, dreamt of sharing their passion for the environment and thus founded the Wilderness Safaris organisation. Botswana is a "Garden of Eden" where wildlife filmmakers go to shoot award winning documentaries. The concentration of birds and animals (particularly predators) is intense. Sightings of Africa's big game and the most colourful birdlife are guaranteed - whether from the camp's raised deck, the back of an open landrover or from a traditional "mokoro" canoe.

Intimate luxury safari camps are tucked away in secluded corners of private concessions with romantic names such as Chief's Island and Kings Pool. Botswana is home to most of Africa's most celebrated safari camps - Mombo, Jao, Little Vumbura and Abu Elephant Camp.

Due to the remote locations of the camps, often on islands surrounded by wetlands, access is by light aircraft. Flying low over the spectacular Botswana landscape is part of the safari experience.
