Busanga Bush Camp

Accommodating only eight guests in four immaculately appointed tents, Busanga Bush Camp is a camp in a class of its own. The tents are shaped in the Meru style with mosquito-proof gauze used in the top part of their walls while the rest, including the roofs, consist of durable canvas. Each suite offers two queen-size beds and a well-equipped, open-air, en-suite bathroom.

At the centre of the camp, the lounge and bar areas are wooden structures covered with canvas and both are prime game-viewing spots with brilliant views of the plains. In fact, as this building faces east, it's the perfect breakfast location and sights of herd of puku and lechwe are common at this time of the day.

The area's vast plains are similar to Tanzania's famous Serengeti plains, and also positively teem with wildlife. Busanga offers many activities and as the seasons change, so do the landscapes.
From mid-November to late-June, the plains are lush and flooded, attracting masses of birdlife such as cranes, herons and other swamp waders. Atlhough it's trickier to spot them during these months, vast numbers of buffalo and huge herds of antelope are also around. In contrast to that, the dry months opens up the landscape, making game more easy to spot, with large numbers of antelope and predators stealing the show. At this time, the grasslands attract herds of zebra and blue wildebeest.

To appreciate these animals, guests can opt for 4x4 game drives (both during the day and at night), and during the wetter months, there are sometimes opportunities to go on river trips with makoros (dug-out canoes) and motorboats.

With its proper safari-camp feel and intimate setting, this is one of Zambia's best-kept secrets where guests can truly unwind far from the madding crowds, and in the heart of Africa's bushveld.
