Shumba Camp

The intimate riverine camp is secluded and shaded by tall trees, and offers six twin tents, with a twin guide tent located nearby. The spacious Meru-style tents are all en-suite, and guests are treated to both in- and outdoor showers. The tents are all raised on platforms to make the most of the spectacular views and the camp is totally geared towards providing an all-encompassing natural experience.

The word Shumba is one of the local names for lion, and there are plenty of prides congregating around the Busanga Plains as it's ideally situated within close proximity to permanent water and within easy reach of seasonal and permanent floodplains, which attract plenty of prey. Some prides of lion around here are up to 20 members strong - a highlight with visitors!

While guests have the option to view a variety of antelope as well as hippo from the comfort of their tents or from the camp's main deck (which is shaded by generous fig trees), a great emphasis is placed on guiding at Shumba.
All the guides are extremely qualified and knowledgeable about the area and its fauna and flora.  They can take guests on a variety of game drives and safaris around the plains, and the night drives are particularly popular.

Back at camp, all meals are memorable and the cosy boma is a special treat where guests can sample the very best of local Zambian cooking, in front of a roaring fire. The dedicated dining and bar area is elevated, ensuring that every possible vista from sunrise to sunset gives guests a bird's eye view of the plains below.

With specialist birding drives and full-day outings including hammock lunches in the Busanga Plains, a visit to Shumba is filled with a wonderful balance of African wilderness adventures and complete relaxation.
