Zambezi Kulefu Camp

IMPORTANT NOTE: due to dramatic rise in water levels of the Zambezi River, the camp area was flooded and Kulefu has been closed for the rest of the 2011 season.

With seven spacious tents, all beautifully perched on the banks of the Zambezi River, this Kulefu is shaded by tall riverine trees and its secluded setting guarantees a peaceful experience. Ecofriendly and beautifully appointed, each of the en-suite canvas tents features twin or double beds as well as mosquito nets; and at night, traditional paraffin lamps light up pathways and tent entrances for an unmistakably African bush atmosphere.

The camp's central lounge and dining area are set in two large Bedouin-style tents, which contribute to the open-air feeling of Kulefu. Teak furniture, natural fabrics and earthy colours add to the authentic luxury of this special camp. The sparkling pool above the riverbank provides some welcome refreshment and at night, the evening campfire on the banks of the river is the best possible place to do some stargazing.
Whether you opt for boat trips, canoe safaris, game drives and/or walking excursions, there's much to see and do around Kulefu. Of course, you can also choose to view the magnificent surroundings - and even spot some game - from the private deck of your tent. Fishing outings here are also most memorable, especially thanks to the presence of the much-touted tigerfish - one of the most sought-after freshwater fish species in the world.

Relaxing canoeing on the Zambezi is a not-to-be-missed treat while Kulefu's walking safaris, conducted by professional guides and armed national park scouts, are possibly the best way to experience the area's natural bounty. Then there are the professionally guided day and night drives in open 4x4 vehicles, and guests can look forward to seeing animals like elephant, hippo, wild dog, aardvark, serval and honey badgers up close.

As a seasonal camp, Kulefu is open from mid-April to mid-November and this traditional tented camp offers unsurpassed game viewing, with regular sightings of lion and leopard being reported.
