Mchenja Bush Camp

Mchenja Bush Camp's lovely setting within an ebony grove borders on a bend in the Luangwa River, and the entire camp - including all the rooms - has wide-angle river views and shading provided by the surrounding ebony and sausage trees. With a main lounge and bar area designed around one of these trees, the look and feel of Mchenja is natural - with a generous dash of luxury.

Comfortable chairs and sofas abound and the small library provides hours of reading entertainment - preferably on one of the recliners scattered on the ample deck, with its shaded plunge pool for in-between dips. For the more energetic, guided walks include one through the ebony grove - which runs parallel to the course of the main river - a not-to-be-missed treat; while game drives here are authentic bushveld experiences.

Featuring only five beautifully appointed tented chalets, Mchenja's accommodation is intimate and private.
Each of the spacious octagonal tents was designed to be light and airy and the wide canvas windows allow a welcome breeze to waft through. With full en-suite facilities, the unique open-air bathrooms give new meaning to the idea of showering under the stars.

Perfect for honeymoons, the camp is a highlight for couples - not only do the tented chalets have a soft, romantic feel, but private honeymoon dinners can also be arranged. Also a paradise for birdwatchers, the nearby lagoons encourage a great variety of birds to make an appearance.

Mchenja literally means "ebony", and it's not difficult to see why this mesmerising grove of trees inspired a luxury bush camp. And the relaxed yet unpretentious atmosphere means it deserves top marks in the safari stakes.

With delicious meals, luxurious lodgings and an enviable location in the heart of the African bushveld, Mchenja Bush Camp has it all - complete with wildlife on tap in the nearby riverbed.
