The Chobe National Park is one of the most visited African safari parks. The Chobe Riverfront is famous for its huge concentrations of African Elephant and Cape Buffalo. During the dry winter months vast herds descend to the River banks to drink. It is one of those unique destinations where the diversity of water and land creates two very different game viewing experiences. The Chobe National Park covers floodplains, swamps and woodland. Your lodge usually gives you the option of river cruises or game drives within the National Park. So you have ample opportunity for some spectacular game viewing, bird watching and African sunsets. The Chobe National Park consists of four distinct geographical areas: the Chobe Riverfront, Ngwezumba Pans, Savute and Linyanti. Accommodation options are generally along the riverfront, in Savute and Linyanti.

The Chobe is a hive of activity. With plenty of tours and activities available, some people even visiting on a day tour only. Despite the activity, one still feels the remoteness of Africa. Floating down the Chobe River, with herds of animals active along the riverfront, reptile activity in the waters or lazing on the shore and the red African sun setting on the horizon.

Chobe National Park is a super combination with itineraries to Victoria Falls. It also works as a great circuit within Botswana including the Okavango Delta and then one of the desert areas like the Kalahari or Makgadikgadi Pans if you have the time. We have put together some super Botswana safari suggested itineraries including this wildlife highlight. The dry months are a good time to visit as the wildlife congregates along the river for the scarce water.

Safari to Chobe, Victoria Falls & Hwange

Camille put a diverse itinerary together for this couple who's focus was safari and seeing a variety of eco-systems and experiences. They stayed at Chobe Game Lodge on the Chobe River, Kwando's Kwarra Camp in the Delta, Elephant Camp at Victoria Falls before going to The Hide in the Hwange National Park.

Family trip to Cape Town, Botswana & Vic Falls

Camille put a great safari adventure together for this family with adult children. It began in Cape Town with day touring with a private guide. Then they went on safari to Botswana's Okavango and Chobe before ending up on the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls.

Victoria Falls & Botswana circuit

Camille put together a lovely safari circuit for this couple from Australia. They went to the Zambian side of the Victoria Falls, then up to the Chobe River, then across into the heart of the Okavango Delta before ending up in the drier Makgadgadi pans region of Botswana.

First time on safari : Cape Town, Kruger and Botswana

Starting in Cape Town, the gateway to Africa, these clients then went on safari to 3 different locations - Simbavati River Lodge in the Timbavati Game Reserve, Umkukbe Safari Lodge in the famous Sabi Sands and then onto Muchenje Safari Lodge up in the Chobe region of Botswana.

Family Adventure : Cape Town, Rovos Rail, Sabi Sands, Vic Falls and Botswana

This US family with young adult kids had a ball on their trip which started in Cape Town with the amazing Charlie as their guide. Then they took Rovos Rail (possibly a bit too stuffy for the kids?) north to their safari at Nottens (one of our favourite camps in the Sabi Sands.) They then flew to Victoria Falls in Zambia and then onto another safari in Botswana’s Chobe National Park and Okavango Delta.
