One of the best loved destinations in South Africa the Garden Route is a gem that should not be missed! Traditionally referred to as the beautiful stretch of coastline between Mossel Bay and the Tsitsikamma National Park, sometimes the route is extended to include the total area between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Outdshoorn and Route 62, slightly off the beaten track destinations, can also make up part of a Garden Route Itinerary.

The Garden Route is an incredible self drive destination with scenic stops throughout, good roads – traditional highways and off the beaten track routes – beautiful scenery and a relaxed ease. This is a destination that can be tailored to your time, and your interests. There is rugged coastline, indigenous forest, fresh water lakes, gorges and rivers, the Indian Ocean and long beautiful sandy beaches.

You can get away from it all and rejuvenate or you can keep the adrenalin pumping and blood flowing and partake in one of the many activities you will find en route. The area is a delight for the whole family and every road and town creates a new adventure. The kids can enjoy an Elephant Back Safari and learn about these amazing creatures. They can walk high in the trees in the indigenous forest, learn about the monkeys at the sanctuary or help dad sharpen up on his birding skills. There are water activities throughout the year and the moderate climate means you can always take advantage of all the area has to offer.

Garden Route accommodation suites all from family self-catering villas to luxury boutique honeymoon retreats. You can lose yourself and forget the real world exists with romantic suites in the treetops. Enjoy panoramic cliff top views over the ocean. Or be in the hub of the local towns, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. Or you can indulge in nature at one of the exclusive country retreats.

About "Garden Route"

Cape Town & Garden Route Safari

These very independent self-driving clients started their adventure in Cape Town staying at Cape Cadogan before heading down the Garden Route enjoying all the activities along the way before going on safari in the Shamwari Game Reserve.

Off-the-beaten-track South Africa self-drive

These returning guests from the UK did an 'off the beater track' trip across South Africa in December (high season). They started in KwaZulu Natal's Battlefields and the Drakensberg mountains, followed by time on the Garden Route, after which they travelled (self-drive) to Stellenbosch via a stop over in Swellendam, before ending off their trip in Cape Town at one of our favourite boutique hotels, Cape Cadogan

All we had to do was pay, show up and enjoy!

This keen-for-anything honeymoon couple loved the diversity of the trip that Liesl put taught for them. She cleverly included personalized tid bits of romance, adrenalin adventure and understated luxury.

A Garden Route guided tour, a wedding in the Winelands and Cape Town

These guests came out to South Africa for a family wedding in the glorious Cape wine country. Before the event they did a guided tour of the Garden Route, enjoyed a safari in a small game reserve along the way and then checked off all the top sight seeing attractions in Cape Town.
