Tall ebony and marula trees shade Kwando Lagoon camp, set in the unspoilt wilderness of Botswana’s largest private reserve, looking over to the border of Namibia’s Caprivi Strip. One of Kwando Safaris’ intimate and very comfortable camps, the focus is on excellent game viewing, with big cats and wild dogs as well as large herds of elephant and buffalo. Extensive game drives explore the huge area, balanced by peaceful boat trips on the Kwando lagoon or river, and guests can fish from the main deck in season. Experienced guides and warm, friendly Botswana hospitality complete the picture.

The eight very spacious tented suites have stunning views over the river and are nestled into forest with a close to nature feel. High thatched roof and canvas sides with solid wooden floors enclose a very comfortable space with huge bed, and generous lounge area with leather armchairs and rich rugs. A large en-suite bathroom has a big tub set in the window and both indoor and outdoor shower with plentiful hot water. Families can enjoy the two bedroom family suite with shared bathroom. Electricity is limited to lighting, but there are charging facilities in the main bar area, and phone reception is sporadic in this remote area, so you really are away from it all.
Game viewing is excellent year round, with vast herds of elephant and buffalo in the winter months and a pack of wild dogs often denning near the camp. Being in a private concession, safari vehicles can off-road, tracking lions to a kill or exploring far afield to find the rare honey badger. Night drives are a feature too, after leisurely sundowners and a dramatic African sunset, discovering the nocturnal animals in action.
Light breakfast around the fire early in the dawn is followed by a hearty brunch on return from the morning drive. Then enjoy time for a relaxing siesta or a dip in the swimming pool to savour the peace or watch passing elephant. Dinner around the communal table is a three course bush feast to the sound of hippos calling. A truly authentic safari experience of unspoilt Africa.
