Onguma Tented Camp is all about offering travellers the most exclusive safari experience possible, and the stylish tents effortlessly combine the design principle of sophisticated relaxation, with elegance meeting earthy undertones. In the local Herero language, Onguma literally means “the place you don’t want to leave”, and once you set foot in this upmarket camp, these words sound truly prophetic. As the latest addition to Vision of Africa’s portfolio, Onguma Tented Camp has the concept of safari chic down pat, and here, luxury is all about clever and often subtle details. Each of the seven tents feature en-suite bathrooms with baths and showers, as well as mosquito netting and fans, and the restaurant, bar and lounge has all kinds of treats in store – from buffet or full English breakfasts to light lunches and elegant four-course dinners.

In fact, every meal here is an occasion, and is blessed with a dash of adventure thanks to nearby waterhole, which provides all kinds of sightings throughout the day and night. All the tents also have views of this waterhole, and provide private and exclusive angles on it. Although game drives are a given in this part of the world, guests are also encouraged to spend long lazy afternoons relaxing on the sofas in the lounge – with regular dips in the refreshing rim-flow pool of course.

The entire camp is a celebration of textures and contrasts, and the interiors echo the colours of the landscape – including muted greys, charcoals, black and white, as well as creams coupled with unexpected bursts of bright, earthy colours. Unfortunately, no children under the age of 12 permitted at Onguma Tented Camp.

Thousands of bird species migrate to Namibia’s wetlands in summer, transforming Onguma Tented Camp into a bird-watcher’s paradise, which can be enjoyed on guided trips into Etosha, during sundowners and on game drives in the reserve.
