With only nine suites with en-suite bathrooms, the lodge provides privacy and exclusivity. Guests can luxuriate in the spacious, comfortable rooms that are decorated with an authentic safari touch of white linen, draped mosquito nets and ethnic carved wood. Majestic views of the Zambezi and surrounding bush are enjoyed from the suites’ private thatched verandas. Before dinner, relax with an iced drink on the veranda with fellow visitors after a long and hot day exploring the bush. Meals are also a sociable affair with a communal dining table providing a relaxed atmosphere by the light of flickering lanterns. An outside deck dining area is ideal for more private meals and it boasts endless river views during the day and an undeniable sense of romance at night under the African sky.

With its wide range of exciting bush activities, Thorntree River Lodge really comes into its own. The most authentic and special experience is surely the elephant back safaris.

There’s nothing more unforgettable than a morning or afternoon ride in the bush on the back of these majestic creatures. Ending the ride, visitors can interact with the elephants, creating a life-long memory. If that’s not enough, visitors can go on lion-walking tours, game drives and hikes.

Making the most of its setting next to the Zambezi river, Thorntree River Lodge offers visitors the opportunity to go on a canoe safari or cruise, spotting hippos and crocodiles or do some exhilarating white water rafting and kayaking. For the ultimate in excitement, there’s nothing better than a helicopter flip over the thundering Victoria Falls.

Thorntree River Lodge not only provides visitors with unforgettable and authentic African safari experiences, but also luxurious comfort next to the inspiring Zambezi River.

Detailed review of Cape Town, Winelands, Thornybush & Vic Falls

This US couple sent very detailed feedback about their trip which included a few days in Cape Town and the Winelands with the services of one of our best private guides. They even reviewed the restaurants they dined at. Then they went on safari in the Thornybush Game Reserve near Kruger before spending their last few days on the banks of the Zambezi River just upstream of the Victoria Falls.

Two families, two diverse African countries - lots of fun with a wide variety of expereinces! They started in buzzy, cosmopolitan Cape Town then journeyed into the remote wilderness of Zambia's Lower Zambezi before ending their trip at Victoria Falls.
