Surrounded by lush forested land and boasting spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro – the world’s highest freestanding mountain – Amboseli Sopa safari lodge fuses luxury and elegance with the wild beauty of the African bush. It is situated within close proximity to the Amboseli National Park, where twice daily game drives allow guests to appreciate the rich wildlife and magnificent scenery.
The safari lodge’s spacious chalets are set in gardens rich with wildlife and dotted with thorny acacia trees, aromatic frangipanis and vividly coloured creepers. Modelled on typical African ‘rondevals’, the circular bungalows feature thatched roofs and stone walls that perfectly complement the environment.
They are equipped with en-suite bathrooms and balconies that offer panoramic views of Amboseli’s fertile plains and Kilimanjaro’s snow-covered peak.
The lodge is permeated with accent pieces that reflect the local Maasai culture and the spirit of Africa.
At night, lights burning in calabash shells cast a soft warm glow around the lodge. The Kibo Restaurant – named after Kilimanjaro’s loftiest peak – has been painted with rich earth tones and designed in the traditional ‘lapa’ style, with a thatched roof and large glass-panelled windows that let in the surrounding wilderness. It serves a fusion of African and international dishes, with buffet breakfasts and lunches and lavish multi-course dinners.
On request, the lodge can also organise picnic lunches or sumptuous bush breakfasts accompanied by bubbly. In addition to over 80 rooms, the lodge encompasses a traditional market where guests can purchase authentic Maasai jewellery and clothing, with the knowledge that proceeds are channelled back into the Maasai community. The Maasai people have lived in this region for centuries, maintaining a traditional lifestyle and strong connections to the land and its wildlife.
