Migration Safaris
The Great Migration is when more than 2 million wildebeest and zebra herds wander from the southern Serengeti National Park, via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Masai Mara in the north and back again . This migration is a natural event that is affected by rainfall and availability of food and therefore the timing and route varies month by month, year by year.
The famous River Crossings occurs when the wildebeest herds are forced to bottleneck to cross a river where hungry crocodiles lie in wait. Thundering hooves kick up lots of dust and the experience is intense. Some camps are ideally located overlooking the rivers allowing guests to view the action from the comfort of the camp. The river crossing happens twice a year around July and September, but it is very difficult to predict exact dates.
