The epitome of ‘glamping’, staying at andBeyond’s Ngala Tented Camp is the ultimate safari chic experience. Although, technically, you’re sleeping in a canvas tent, Ngala Tented Camp is really quite luxurious. The romantic canvas tents are spacious, contemporary and sophisticated and best of all, you go to bed to the sound of the bush – crickets chirping, night jars calling and if you’re lucky, a lion roaring in the distance. It’s the authenticity of being on safari combined with the simple sophistication of fine linen, gleaming woodwork flickering lanterns and warm hospitality. Ngala Tented Camp is located in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve, alongside the Kruger National Park. There are only nine very comfortable tented suites with en-suite bathrooms and electric blankets in winter.

There are no fences stopping the migration of animals between the two reserves and guests are more than likely to see the Big Five during a two or three night stay. The camp looks out over the Timbavati riverbed where animals often come down for their daily drink. Wooden viewing decks jut out through the riverine foliage and guests can sit quietly and take in the sounds and unexpected sights of the bush – like an elephants munching on a thorn tree or an impala moving cautiously down to drink or leopards mating!

Qualified rangers and trackers will reveal more of the magic of the African bush on day and night drives and optional walking safaris. Besides the Big Five, there is a high concentration of elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard, and wild dog. Birders and photographers will be in paradise!

To access Ngala Tented Camp, guests can fly directly in to the Ngala strip on the daily Federal Air scheduled charter from Johannesburg or take the daily scheduled SA Express flight to Hoedspruit’s Eastgate Airport and a 1 hour road transfer from there.
