From its perfect position on top of the whale watching cliffs of Walker Bay, the world famous, luxurious Birkenhead House offers a superior seaside experience. Presenting guests with stunning views over two pristine, sandy beaches, it’s the ideal place to watch the waves and see the surfers come in. Between June and November guests can relax on wicker loungers, alongside the plunge pool, and keep an eye out for the whales frolicking in the bay and swimming right in front of the hotel. This is always a really special experience and one that never gets old. All the rooms at Birkenhead House are individually decorated and luxurious, with lots of bold original styles, from zebra-print upholstery to shell-framed mirrors and other delightful touches.
The suites offer beautiful views of either Walker Bay and the ocean or the towering Kleinrivier mountain range. The rooms are all equipped with air-con, TV, DVD players, Wifi connection and complimentary minibar.
If you can drag yourself away from your luxurious suite, there is plenty to do in and around Hermanus. From rugged cliffs, to the beach to the charming town of Hermanus itself. Situated between the Kleinrivier Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean on the Cape Coast, this is the best location in the world for land-based whale watching. Pathways along the cliff edge give guests the opportunity to explore this wild and beautiful coastline.
If you are more of a beach lover, then you can spend the day on the clean, safe sands surrounding the hotel. The Hermanus beach on the left is Voëlklip, (‘bird rock’ in Afrikaans) perfect for swimming. The beach on the right is Nanny’s or Kamma Bay. Birkenhead House will pack you a picnic, beach bats and balls and you can spend a relaxed day on the sands.
Back at the hotel, round off a leisurely day by indulging your senses at the spa. Choose from a medley of massages, aromatherapy and reflexology treatments. There is also a fully equipped gym.
