Less than five minutes walk from Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park offices, the Buhoma Lodge offers intimate accommodation with spectacular and uninterrupted views of one of the greatest forests in East Africa. Being so close to the start of the gorilla tracking routes, the lodge, which has recently been renovated, is perfectly located for expeditions in search of the rare and elusive mountain gorilla.
Offering six cottages and three double rooms, guests can choose between luxurious or more budget-oriented options.
The spacious twin/double cottages include private verandas with superior views of the nearby rainforests while the three twin rooms have shared bathroom facilities. The cottages are equipped with comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms (some with showers and some with bathtubs) and all the bathrooms at the homestead have hot water.Thanks to the recent upgrade, furnishings and fittings ensure that the homestead provides the kind of facilities and services expected by international travellers.
In the main area, the elevated lounge includes a bar as well as dining facilities and the cosy atmosphere – complete with a crackling fireplace – is so inviting that guests often ending up sharing their days experiences with each other here.
Mealtimes at Buhoma hold special appeal as all dishes are freshly prepared with local ingredients – and include a range of cuisines from Western favourites to local delicacies.
As part of the establishments emphasis on responsible tourism, sustainable local materials were used for the construction of the lodge, and where possible, support is also given to local communities and businesses. The camps water supply is gravity fed, and solar power is used for lighting (with power points limited to a central area allocated for recharging cameras and video recorders).
