Set on the banks of the Savuti Channel in an area teeming with wildlife, Camp Savuti is in a prime location in the middle of Botswana’s Chobe National Park. The landscapes include waterways, surrounded by an oasis of green and dry open plains, so there is a superb mix of big cats, plains game and prolific birdlife. Fly in to the Savuti airstrip from Maun and start your game viewing already on the 30-40 minute transfer to the camp. Each tent is set apart for privacy and the shady private verandah looks out over the waters of the Savuti channel, where elephants cross daily. The ensuite bathrooms have bathtubs, flush toilet and an outside shower and there’s even a small air-conditioning unit for hot weather, as well as the ceiling fan, though usually nights cool down rapidly here. Big beds with mosquito netting and traditional safari furniture create the perfect ambience.
Early morning wake-ups get guests out into the cool of the morning for the best game viewing on exciting drives, where you might track lions or leopards off road, see hippos and elephants at the water’s edge, or even enjoy sightings of the endangered African wild dog. After a generous brunch at camp there is plenty of quiet siesta time, or spend hours watching birds from your tent. Taking to the water offers another perspective, seeing the water birds, frogs and smaller creatures up close, and then sundowners watching the sunset from water or land are equally amazing. The friendly staff provides wonderful dinners at the main lodge dining area and bar with wine and drinks included.
