A gorgeous setting overlooking a permanent lagoon frequented by hippo and elephant, is the home of Chindeni Bushcamp. The Bushcamp Company operate a handful of intimate and exclusive seasonal camps in this remote corner of Zambia’s South Luangwa Park, where the year-round water attracts abundant wildlife and the only crowds are of buffalo and bush buck. Open from May to December, Chindeni brings guests close to nature with game drives and bush walks, and plenty of down time for relaxing on your private verandah enjoying the show put on for you by nature, in between delicious meals and scenic sundowners.

Four opulent tented suites are tucked into the treeline overlooking the lagoon. Each is incredibly spacious with vaulted canvas ceilings over the king-size or twin queen beds, the open lounge area and the airy en-suite bathroom. There may not be modern conveniences but solar energy provides plentiful hot water and soft lighting, and you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to comfortable places to relax, from the hammocks on the verandah, to the wicker lounge chairs or sinking into the soft linen of the bed for a siesta. A very comfortable safari chic open lounge at the main lodge provides a meeting place, before delicious meals conjured seemingly from nowhere by the camp chef, whose bush kitchen produces cakes and tantalising snacks for sundowners as well as hearty brunches and gourmet dinners.

Morning bush walks are thrilling and informative, bringing all the senses in contact with the real Africa and discovering the secrets of the bush. Game drives explore the plains and as sunset fades guests expereince the thrilling adventure of night drives, seeking out leopard and other nocturnal animals. Sometimes wild dogs are seen, lions, buffalo, elephant and hippo (but not rhino) are prolific and there is a profusion of birds to delight any keen birder. Warm and friendly staff add value with a wealth of stories and information, so that this oasis of bush luxury in the wilderness soon becomes a home from home, intriguing and delighting guests with an authentic African safari experience in the greatest of comfort.
