Both Fugitives Drift Lodge and the guesthouse are set in immaculate and shady, well-established gardens (featuring a wide range of birds), and offer beautifully appointed en-suite luxury cottages with private verandas and sweeping views of the plains surrounding the Buffalo River Gorge. The lodge’s spectacular swimming pool is nestled on a secluded spur on the lip of the Buffalo River gorge while the guesthouse’s sparkling pool overlooks Isandlwana and long stretches of indigenous bushveld.Accommodation at both is also fully catered. At the lodge, the recently renovated annex – the Cottage – offers two en-suite bedrooms and a lounge, making it perfect for families or groups of friends. A third option exists in the form of the self-catering Umzimyathi House.

The culinary offerings at Fugitives’ Drift are nothing short of mouthwatering and comprise a fusion of local and modern flavours, made from the freshest of ingredients.

Whether staying at the lodge, the guesthouse or at Umzimyathi House, guests are all privy to the same line-up of tours, as well as the same guides and lecturers, who are famous for their innovative and spirited historical excursions.

Fugitives’ Harford Library is a perfect conference venue and despite its old-world charm, it offers all modern bells and whistles – from the capacity to seat 34 guests to a dedicated kitchen, to wireless internet access and an integrated audiovisual system. It’s the perfect venue for parties, corporate functions and even think tanks, and enjoys the same warm hospitality and excellent service that can be found throughout Fugitives’ Drift.

Offering some of the finest guides in South Africa (who treat guests to thought-provoking and often emotionally charged tours to the historical sights of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift), walks and horseriding, Fugitives’ Drift also boasts an abundant game and birdlife as well as fishing in the property’s 20km-frontage on the Buffalo River.
