The unique five-star camp is the only private concession in the well-known Addo Elephant National Park, which is home to the densest elephant population on earth.
Sheltered under thatched canopies, Gorah’s 11 tented suites are not only generously sized, but also filled with all kinds of exquisite creature comforts. Each tent includes an en-suite bathroom with a shower, an interior relaxation area and a private deck with sweeping views across the plains. Additional features include solar-powered lights and ceiling fans, while complimentary Wi-Fi is available in all public areas of the lodge.
Game viewing forms the core of days at Gorah, and qualified rangers and guides are on tap to take guests on excursions in the lodge’s 4×4 game-viewing Land Cruisers.
With two dining rooms (with sublime views of Addo’s plains) on offer, guests are spoilt for choice, and various outdoor dining facilities are also available.
Not to mention the al fresco dining area where a crackling log fire, the sounds of animals and a canopy of stars set the scene for unforgettable meals. Throughout, the menus at Gorah are nothing short of mouthwatering, and feature an African twist as well as some of South Africa’s very best wines.
The two well-appointed lounges feature an inviting and cosy fireplace, while the library boasts a classic collection of books donated to Gorah by guests from all over the world. Other public areas include various sun decks and porches (one even overlooks an active waterhole), while the swimming pool and tanning decks are perfect for hot summer’s days.
Apart from picturesque views, superb wildlife viewing, fine dining and the lodge’s sumptuous suites, guests at Gorah can also opt for exclusive photographic excursions on request, with an expert guide on hand to help you find the best opportunities. The camp, a member of Relais & Chateaux, is after all set in a Big 5 Reserve.
