With Jacana Safari Lodge’s prime location in the Queen Elizabeth National Park and on the edge of the largest crater lake in Uganda; its attention to details and an unwavering emphasis on making the most of the picturesque setting with its rich biodiversity; Jacana Safari Lodge ticks all the boxes when it comes to meeting the requirements of discerning travellers on safari.

Essentially a tree-house lodge, this establishment was constructed by making use of natural materials – rock, poles, wood and rope – and the organic furniture blends in perfectly with the natural surroundings of the tropical hardwood forest. Style and comfort are key and each of the ten freestanding luxury chalets are enveloped by the dense foliage of the Maramagambo Forest.

A spacious family cottage is also available and includes two rooms that are joined together. All the rooms have en-suite bathrooms, are tastefully furnished and offer private enclosed verandas with panoramic views of Lake Nyamusingire. The focal point of the main lodge area is a lounge with a large fireplace, comfy sofas and luxurious Persian rugs, creating a cosy atmosphere which is equally appealing for after-dinner drinks or an early morning coffee.

Meals at Jacana can either be enjoyed in the dining room or at the Captain’s Table (a floating pontoon) while the Sundowner Bar literally hangs over Lake Nyamusingire’s edge and leads to the jetty. Around the swimming pool area (which is also next to the lake) the sauna and massage area provides complete relaxation and rejuvenation. Activities include guided trips to the Queen Elizabeth National Park (with frequent sightings of sightings of buffalo, warthogs, leopard and, in the southern part of the park, the famous tree-climbing lions); kayaking on the lake as well as boat cruises on the Kazinga Channel – which offers great game-viewing opportunities, including hippos, crocodiles, herds of elephant and an abundant birdlife. Experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority guides ensure that guests get the best opportunities for game viewing, and packed lunches and picnics are also available on request.

Thanks to the many routes in the area, the natural surrounds of Jacana Safari Lodge can be explored on foot, and visitors will be rewarded with sightings of many of Africa’s most exotic birds, butterflies and wild animals
