Overlooking an immense pan in the middle of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Kalahari Plains Camp offers excellent game viewing and the soul-stirring experience of endless horizons and huge African skies. One of Wilderness Safari’s Classic camps, it is recently refurbished providing comfortable tented suites, powered by solar electricity, and a swimming pool for cooling dips on hot summer afternoons. The star wildlife attractions are the black-maned lions and there is an abundance of plains game all year round, with the November to January summer months most prolific. The ten tented suites are comfortable and private with their own wooden decks, topped with the unique feature of a sleep-out platform. On request staff will make up a bed on the roof, so that guests can sleep-out under the immense starry skies in the cool of the night, warmed by hot water bottles and thick duvets. Enjoy the expansive views from this look-out with dinner served for two for extra romance on special occasions. Otherwise enjoy the comforts inside your tent with ensuite bathroom and solar heated shower.
The Kalahari isn’t sand desert, but a vast expanse of dry grassy plains supporting a wide variety of wildlife from the famous lions to bat-eared foxes, cheetah, honey badgers, wildebeest and much more. Morning and evening game drives explore the area and a full day excursion takes guests to discover the amazing landscape of Deception Pan with a picnic lunch in the bush on the way. No off-roading is permitted in this national park, but the guides are experienced in obtaining the best wildlife sightings in this uncrowded and pristine environment.
The reserve is bushman territory allowing them to preserve their traditional way of life and guests enjoy a walk with one of the Bushman camp staff to learn about their culture and ways of surviving in this harsh climate. Excellent and creative meals are served under the stars or in the comfortable dining area.
