Kulala Desert Lodge is set on raised platforms, the 15 thatch and canvas chalets merge seamlessly in the rugged environment. Private roofs can even be used as sleeping spaces on warm nights for an outdoor experience of note. Verandas with endless views of the dunes and plains are perfect areas for quiet contemplation, while the main area has a lounge, pub, dining area and veranda overlooking a waterhole, which attracts local desert wildlife. This main area is built in a north African style from clay bricks and this authentic architecture fits well into the desert landscape. The decor has a restrained ethnic touch with mosquito nets, orange leather couches and woven fabric details everywhere. Comfort is paramount, and visitors are made to instantly feel at home.

For visitors keen to experience the activities in the area, they are numerous and varied. From the exotic romance of a hot air balloon ride over the dunes followed by a champagne breakfast to nature drives and walks around the private reserve, there really is something for everyone.

After climbing the spectacular sand dunes of the Namib desert and visiting world-famous Sossusvlei, a cooling swim in the pool at the lodge provides heavenly respite from the heat.

Before dinner, sundowners are a must and the veranda at the main area provides a bird’s eye view of the watering hole below. A fascinating variety of animals like oryx, foxes, jackals and even ostriches come to quench their desert thirst as the sun starts to set in the distance.

Luxury, comfort and an attention to detail are what set Kulala Desert Lodge apart in the vast beauty of the spectacular Namib desert.
