Remote untouched Africa combining wide open plains and verdant marshlands, Lebala is set deep in the Kwando private concession of Northern Botswana’s Linyanti marshlands. This untouched eco-system is home to a wide variety of plains game, large herds of elephants and is known for its wild dog sightings. The safari experience is the focus here, each game drive accompanied by both guide and tracker, with extensive morning and evening drives. Arrive by light aircraft from Maun to a warm welcome at this comfortable and intimate camp, and enjoy an authentic Botswana safari with a relaxed and friendly ambience.
Raised on stilts to look over the reeds at the water or out over the plain, each of the eight tented suites is spacious and comfortable. With a high canvas roof over wooden frame and open walls screened by mosquito netting to allow cooling breezes, guests are close to nature, seeing herds of elephants or red lechwe pass by as they relax on the private verandah. Plenty of pillows and covers on the king size beds keep guests snug on winter nights and there’s electric light in the suites, with charging facilities at the main camp. Through a dressing room in the en-suite bathroom is a tub and double vanity, separate toilet and an enclosed outdoor area with double shower.
A light breakfast around the camp fire precedes the early morning game drive, the best time to see predators hunting and wildlife in action. The knowledgeable guides and trackers are dedicated to finding the best sightings and positioning the vehicle perfectly for photography. Abundant wildlife and a whole range of terrain makes for diverse viewing. Besides lions, leopards, elephants and wild dogs, guest might see wild cats, honey badgers and porcupines, especially with the freedom of night drives and going off road in the huge private concession. A substantial brunch is served on return from the morning drive, then guests can siesta or laze by the swimming pool until afternoon tea and the evening drive, followed by dinner at a communal table sharing the highlights of the day’s safari. An intimate gem of a camp for exceptional wildlife viewing.
