Set among picturesque boulders and kopjies on slopes overlooking the plains of Tanzania’s Northern Serengeti, Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge is a haven of peace and eco-friendly luxury. An ideal destination to witness the legendary river crossings of wildebeest and zebra during the Great Migration, it also offers excellent Big Five game viewing year round with lots of lion and leopard. As well as the beautiful communal swimming pool, each suite has its own private plunge pool to cool off in between game drives, or luxuriate with a massage at the secluded spa.
Designed with green building materials for minimal impact on the landscape, each of the 15 spacious tented suites is tucked among the boulders on the hillside for complete privacy and the best sunset views over trees and grassland.
Huge super-king or wide twin beds are swathed in a canopy of mosquito netting, looking out through sliding glass doors over a private deck to the wide views. To one side of the bedroom is a generous lounge area with sofa, coffee table and chairs, to the other a large separate bathroom with a curvy bathtub set in the window and both indoor and outdoor showers. 24 hour electricity is provided by solar and wind power with back-up from an emergency generator, there’s wifi throughout the lodge, and each suite has a charging station, fans, well stocked mini-bar and tea and coffee facilities.
While the most dramatic game-viewing happens between June and October when the Great Migration passes through, with action-packed crossings of the River Mara and herds of wildebeest filling the landscape, the expert guides find plenty of interest on game drives in the quieter season too, with big cats and many plains game resident year round. Back at camp there are lavish and creative meals served at individual tables beside the fireplaces warming the dining room in winter, and a nightly camp-fire for convivial conversation with other guests. The true luxury that sets Lemala Kuria Hills apart is the friendly attention to detail of all the staff and the warmth and effort they putting into creating a memorable safari experience for each guest.
