A brand new luxury tented camp raises the game for discerning travellers to Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park. Wilderness Safaris re-opened Linkwasha Camp in May 2015 after a complete re-build to bring new levels of luxury to their game-rich private concession within the park, known for its prolific population of lion and large herds of elephant. Wide open savannah, teak forests and acacia woodland are a stunning backdrop to superb game-viewing on day and night drives and exciting walking safaris, interspersed with lazy afternoons by the pool in summer, beside the fire in the library in winter, and perhaps a night at the sleep-out deck for the adventurous.
The eight en-suite tents and one family tent are arranged with plenty of privacy among trees looking out over the waterhole, so that guests can watch elephant drinking and bathing even from the comfort of their beds. Sliding glass doors open onto a private deck, and open plan bedroom, lounge and bathroom all have amazing views. With understated contemporary style in neutral earth colours, the emphasis is on comfort and convenience, with a ceiling fan positioned within the mosquito net canopy over the bed, high ceilings for airflow, a small bar-fridge and tea and coffee facilities to hand. Then there is an additional outdoor shower for the unforgettable experience of showering under the stars in the middle of nature.
Wilderness Safaris have been actively involved in conservation within Hwange for many years and the concession has also been a centre of lion and other predator research, so experienced guides have a wide range of expertise to impart on morning and evening game drives and walks. Adjacent to the Ngamo Plains, the camp offers excellent green season game viewing to complement the abundant dry season winter wildlife, as well as prolific bird life with over 400 varieties. Large herds of elephant and buffalo, roan and sable antelope, leopard, spotted hyena and many more animals roam the pristine landscape. Guests also visit nearby Ngamo village for authentic interaction with the local people.
Friendly attentive service, delicious meals served under the stars and beautiful sunsets with sundowners in the bush are the final touches to a memorable luxury safari in Zimbabwe.
