Meno a Kwena offers non-stop safari action among the vast plains of a conservancy which borders Botswana’s Makgadikgadi Pans. This charmingly authentic tented safari camp overlooks the Boteti River from its rocky perch. It’s a Natural Selection camp and so the emphasis ison classic-style safari without the superfluous extras offered by many in its league. What Meno a Kwena lacks in bells and whistles it more than makes up for with unforgettable experiences.
Here it’s all about location. Placed halfway between the Okavango Delta and the arid south, and right on one of the only water sources in the area, Meno a Kwena sets the stage for a procession of migrant species and water-loving wildlife. You can see it all from 100 feet above the action, without even having to set foot out of camp.
Awake from your slumber to the call of the wild – it could be an elephant on the dawn parade or a fish eagle soaring above. Locally woven fabrics and colonial style furniture add a luxury feel to these 9 newly refurbished yet simple Meru tents. En suite bathrooms provide all the necessities, including an outdoor shower.
A private kraal with viewing deck surrounds each tent. Ample beds ensure a comfortable rest after a busy day experiencing what your surroundings have to offer. Two of the tents have an interleading room for children.
Despite the outstanding views, you won’t spend much time in your suite. The communal areas are the place to lap up the friendly vibe from the camp staff. Dine on excellent cuisine cooked over an open fire, lounge in the rock hewn pool or gaze up the stars while gathered around the campfire.
In addition, you’ll find several cosy vantage points with soft cushions to accommodate hours spent watching the game come and go to the water’s edge below. Every inch of these spaces is filled with interesting trinkets, fabrics, and fascinating ornaments. There are books galore to pique your interest and fill you in on the African way of simply being.
The daily bliss begins with glowing sunrises from the private deck of your safari tent, followed by a choice of activities that will fill your day with truly African experiences. Game drives to the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park can be combined with drinks, a bush picnic or an evening under the stars for added enjoyment. Close encounters with black-maned lions, leopard, cheetah and wild dogs can be expected as well as the usual sightings of antelope, giraffe, zebra, buffalo and birds.
Take a step back in time with a Bushman tracker by your side as you visit cultural villages or discover the ancient art of tracking. When it’s flowing strongly, the Boteti River is a watery playground for boat trips to watch the animals come down to drink, or you can settle for an eye level view of proceedings from the floating hide.
It’s clear from its location, that Meno a Kwena offers unlimited chances to capture incredible photographs of birds, animals and the Botswana landscape.
Capture your moment in time and beautiful African memories at Meno a Kwena.
