The jewel of the Garden Route is Plettenberg Bay. What started out as a sleepy seaside holiday village is now one of the top destinations along the Garden Route. This is a true paradise. Originally christened the “beautiful bay” by early Portuguese explorers, Plett, as it is affectionately known, has miles of unspoilt coastline and beautiful, unpopulated beaches. You can spend your days unwinding and taking in magnificent views or making use of your natural surroundings and enjoying one of the many tours and activities in the area.
The seaside location means you have some amazing water based activities and marine life to choose from. Whales make their appearance in the winter and spring months and land or boat based whale watching is a must! The Dolphins are almost daily visitors, summer or winter. The Tsitsikamma Forest and Reserve is on your doorstep. With beautiful hiking trails and the world’s highest commercial bungy jump this is an adrenaline seeking adventure enthusiast’s playground.
The rugged Robberg Peninsula provides bird life and Fynbos and the beginning of 15km of picturesque beach. There are wildlife reserves and bird sanctuaries for entertainment and fun on your family holiday.
Plett is one of those places where you have a choice of some superb accommodations in town, but if you stay a little out of town you have magnificent nature and scenery on your doorstep. There are four and five star country retreats with amazing views and a plethora of activities. Or you can sit and relax, read a book or catch up on a bit of sleep.
If you are looking to stay somewhere a little different, this is the area for you. Forested retreats, tucked away private castles, beachfront boutique guest houses or river front luxury lodges are all for the picking.
