Rhulani Safari Lodge ticks all the right boxes concerning location, accommodation, food, activities and service. Aesthetically, Rhulani doesn’t try to impress by being an urban hotel in the bush. Rather, its architecture and decor exhibits a strong sense of place – organic materials such as stone, thatch, wood and iron are composed in such a way that boundaries between man-made and nature are hard to discern. That is… Until you flop down on top of your plush bed in your luxurious suite, sink into a sofa in the open-plan lounge (your gaze firmly set on the silhouette of a herd of zebra posing in the sunset), or dine on world-class cuisine that both satisfies and excites your palette. The word rhulani means ‘relax’, something you can’t help but do in this oasis of calm.

Sleep comes easily here after a day of early morning and late afternoon 4X4 game drives, sun worshiping on your private deck (a plunge pool nearby for quick cool-downs) or with fellow guests at the lodge’s rock pool, delicious meals eaten underneath a canopy of stars and your own bush TV in the form of a waterhole that is set directly in front of the camp.

Another tick in Rhulani Safari Lodge’s commendation box: the Madikwe area is malaria-free and thus ideal for family travel. Children are welcome (although only those over the age of six will be considered to go on the safari game drives).

Rhulani Safari Lodge offers a rustic and comfortable retreat in the South African bushveld that focuses as much on the wildlife experience as it does on nourishing your soul, pampering your senses and uplifting your spirit.
