RockFig Safari Lodge is the latest addition to the collection of luxury safari lodges in the beautiful Timbavati Private Game Reserve, which is home to two of our other favourite properties, andBeyond Ngala Safari Lodge, and King’s Camp. The Timbavati, which borders the Kruger National Park is a well established Big Five safari destination. It is also one of two reserves in South Africa where guests have the chance to spot White Lions.
RockFig Lodge is set deep in the African bushveld of the Timbavati Game Reserve with views over a water hole from the rim flow pool and outdoor lounge and chill area. Rock Fig Lodge has been cleverly designed to blend into the surrounding environment with many eye-catching pieces commissioned from local artisans. Indoor and outdoor spaces merge seamlessly together, creating a sense of tranquility wherever you happen to find yourself relaxing between safari activities. The easy living of the lodge is for families with children of all ages, or for groups of friends.
There are only six suites, which give the friendly staff every opportunity to ensure that your every need is met with their utmost attention. Each luxury suite has indoor and outdoor showers, a sumptuous bath, excellent quality linen and a private deck – perfect for private romantic dinners.
The morning begins before daybreak with coffee and home baked biscuits delivered to your door before setting off into the sunrise on a game drive. The immaculate safari vehicles accommodate just 4 guests at a time and feature considerate extras like individual consoles for storing your binoculars and camera.
The bush comes alive in the hands of your experienced and passionate guide on these drives as well as guided walks among this diverse landscape. You’ll discover the intimate secrets of some of the bushveld smallest denizens as well as revel in sightings of sought-after big game species.
Leopards, lions, elephants and even wild dogs may reveal themselves as you drive along. In between sightings, your guide infuses interest and information into every inch of your journey through one of the best safari parks in South Africa.
Morning game excursions will leave you with an appetite for the sumptuous breakfast buffet that greets you on your return to camp. Lunches are usually held al fresco in the wilds, featuring unique snacks such as dried mango wrapped in crispy bacon and even bush-style ice cream sandwiches. Every mealtime is distinctive and delectable at Rock Fig Lodge.
The afternoon tea trolley appears before your last game drive of the day, groaning under the weight of its cargo of cakes, sandwiches and fruit. Afternoon game drives inevitably end with cocktails in a secluded spot with an enviable view of the sunset and a choice of 18 locally brewed gins.
Dinner time presents an opportunity to dine fireside in the boma while the African stars twinkle silently overhead against a background of hyenas and lions announcing their distant presence. In the event of rain, the cosy, spacious dining room is an excellent alternative.
