Deep inside southwest Ugandas Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – lies Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp. Its the only camp within Bwindi National Park, which is home to more than half of the worlds last surviving population of mountain gorillas. Seeing these gentle African giants in their natural habitat is a rare treat as only eight visitors are allowed to view each group of mountain gorillas per day.

As the perfect base for tracking excursions deep into the heart of the rainforest, Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is one of the continents most remote and charming destinations.

Consisting of eight luxurious guest tents, every creature comfort is catered for and each of the spacious en-suite units feature two queen-size beds and a bathtub with ample views of the forest – the ultimate way to soothe tired muscles after a day of tracking in the jungle.

Wooden floors and decks support the tents and the main areas raised platform is perfect for open-air dinners. It’s not uncommon for guests to spend hours huddled around the camp’s cosy campfire while getting lost in the beauty of Bwindis exceptionally clear night skies

Activities at Bwind are very much centred on adventurous travellers who are nature-lovers, and the camps guided forest walks afford guests the opportunity to spot some of the 350 species of birds found here. Other wildlife highlights include 11 kinds of primates, forest duiker antelopes, rare forest elephants, giant forest hogs and more than 200 species of butterflies. Another highlight is a cultural tour, which involves interacting with local communities on many levels. While walking, guests can meet tea pickers, see how banana beer is made and even visit a traditional medicine man, before being treated to an authentic performance by the Batwa pigmy community. The unique forest setting also allows for unforgettable views, and the region is characterised by dramatic mountain ranges, eye-catching waterfalls, volcanoes and jagged valleys.

With the backdrop of one of Africas most dramatic settings, this unique lodge provides a luxurious setting and supreme exclusivity – as well as the opportunity to observe mountain gorillas in the wild.
