A rustic safari lodge, Serengeti Sopa Lodge is set up on the Nyarboro Hills overlooking the endless game-filled vistas of Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, home to magnificent migrations that have criss-crossed these grassy plains for hundreds of years.
Year-round water in this part of the Serengeti and the surrounding flat-topped acacias ensure spectacular game viewing, either on game drives or from the air. Hot-air ballooning over the herds at Serengeti Sopa Lodge is an unforgettable sight with all the sounds drifting upwards towards the balloon basket –
Sound of thumping hooves pounding the earth, grunting males and the calls of skittish babies making sure their mothers keep track of them.
But whether you’re game viewing from the air or on land, the migration is an awe inspiring and ancient ritual. But so too are the gentler routines of the bush where a good deal of resting, nibbling and ambling to waterholes allows one to really take in the variety of game and birdlife to be seen at Serengeti Sopa Lodge.
Back at Serengeti Sopa Lodge, rich and earthy colours at the lodge welcome you warmly with large comfortable wooden chairs – the perfect spot for a G&T as the sun goes down
Soft lighting and Mexican inspired touches are carried through to the suites, where similar earthy colours are incorporated into the fabrics. There are 69 standard rooms, each with two queen beds, one suite for physically challenged guests and four double-storey suites with bedrooms upstairs, taking in the magnificent views.
The living area downstairs is spacious and leads out onto a balcony facing the plains, a memorable spot to have a romantic dinner for two. Wedding and conferences are also often held at Serengeti Sopa Lodge because they can accommodate everyone together, usually a challenge for bridal couples looking for a venue in the heart of the bush.
Serengeti Sopa Lodge is just over seven-hour’s drive from Arusha or a 50-minute hop on a small plane – an ideal option for safari travellers coming into Africa from Europe, as guests can even enjoy a game drive the same day they leave home!
