The Timbavati Private Game Reserve forms a part of the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa. Situated deep within its heart lies Tanda Tula, meaning ‘love of the quiet’ in the local Shangaan language. Tanda Tula is one of the oldest camps in the Timbavati, steeped in local culture and history as well as being quietly infused with the true romance of Africa.
Accommodation at Tanda Tula comes in the form of twelve luxury, East African-style tents, magically reminiscent of a bygone era with their airy bedrooms, spacious en-suite bathrooms, with deep Victorian baths and outdoor showers. Each Tanda Tula tent is equipped with a fan, mosquito netting and hot and cold running water. Guests can now also book Tanda Tula’s new Field Camp.
Perhaps the highlight of Tanda Tula is that it offers this experience to only a handful of guests at a time with a maximum of only 6 guests per game vehicle at a time. With a vehicle density of less than one per square mile, it is perfectly at one with its natural environment. A ‘must do’ is the overnight walking safari. Or you can choose to spend a night in the amazing new star bed!
What a prime position to be in to experience uninterrupted game viewing on twice-daily game drives, or whilst exploring the undisturbed wilderness on foot at Tanda Tula. Tracker teams guide guests on adrenalin-filled safaris, seeking Africa’s Big 5 in over 20,000 acres of bushveld.
For guests who prefer the tranquillity of a day spent cooling off in the swimming pool or reclining on the wide deck at the lodge, the lounge and bar look over a watering hole where animals come to wallow, blissfully unaware of their audience above.
Guests at Tanda Tula will also love animal spotting from their private decks looking out over lush riverine bush. Honeymooners, or those seeking the ultimate in exclusive getaways, can also book the Tandala suite, which has its own private pool, personal chef, ranger and game-viewing vehicle.
Award-winning Tanda Tula dinners can be enjoyed al fresco but with a difference, around log fires in the traditional communal lodge boma or at a barbeque on the riverbank, under a canopy of African starlight.
Tanda Tula is one of South Africa’s most luxurious tented bushcamps, offering visitors the African wildlife experience of a lifetime, traversing the lush bush of the Kruger National Park.
