Perched high on top of a dune plateau, overlooking the panoramic vistas of the NamibRand Game Reserve in all directions, this lodge is an extra special and memorable location. Built out of wood and canvas, the blinds open up to the most beautiful 360-degree vista of the endless desert surrounds. The lodge reflects the ambiance of the tented camp, but is different in that it provides a level of comfort and protection that only a permanent structure can provide. Sleeping with your canvas blinds open is just like a night spent sleeping under the stars.
Each of the nine well-appointed chalets are spacious with an en-suite bathroom and it’s own private verandah, which connects you to acres of untouched sand in all directions.
The main complex, which was rebuilt in 2003, is made up of two lounges, a few sundowner decks dotted around a fireplace, a tea deck, a library and two dining rooms.
For those here to explore there are sundowner drives that take you about 10kms into the dunes, where drinks are served under the most breathtaking sunsets. The return drive delivers you back just in time for a sumptuous dinner. Morning and afternoon drives cover a distance of about 40-50kms and take three to four hours. Day drive take you about 120kms into the desert, offering the most exceptional diversity and understanding of the NamibRand Conservancy. A picnic lunch is served in the middle of nowhere. Scenic flights are popular here at Wolwedans. Taking off during the late afternoon, you get a birds eye view of the Diamond Coast and Sossusvlei, which is a truly exhilarating, once in a lifetime experience.
If you are a fan of photography you will find many wonders to entice you. The starkness of Sossusvlei and the wild beauty of NamibRand provide the perfect backdrop for some of the most incredible photographs you’ll ever take.
