It’s been a really exciting week at African Safari Consultants! On Monday, we experienced an overwhelming response to our ‘Picture of the Week’ on our Facebook Fan Page with an outpouring of positive sentiment.

Inspired by that morning’s electrical storm in Cape Town (where our South African office is located), John Maarschalk‘s brilliant 2009 photograph of lightning bisecting the Cape sky garnered over 1000 likes, nearly 900 shares and 300 comments. It resulted in our page receiving nearly 150 new likes that day, which is nothing short of remarkable!

To show our appreciation to our fans, and to give some love of our own, we’ve chosen to partner with South Africa’s Uthando Organisation in honour of both Valentine’s Day, and ASC nearing the 1000 fan mark. Upon reaching our 1000th Facebook fan, we’ll be making a donation to this extremely worthwhile cause.

Founded in 2007, Uthando is all about uplifting the community by supporting, or developing a programme of support for, community based projects. Meaning ‘love’ in Xhosa, Uthando champions a diverse range of causes such as combating abuse, sustainable development and agricultural education, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, drug addiction, ex-convict rehabilitation and animal welfare (to name but a few).

The work they do really is invaluable, and we know that all help they receive would be greatly appreciated and put to extremely good use.

Spread Smiles this Valentine’s Day

We encourage as many of our facebook fans as possible to donate however much they could spare to this worthy organisation. The donation page can be found here.

As an added incentive, besides helping others who need it, we’ll be offering a 10% discount on your next travel booking with us to all our friends with proof of donation.

To quote Robin Sharma, author of ‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari’, “when all is said and done, no matter what you have achieved, no matter how many summer homes you own, no matter how many cars sit in your driveway, the quality of your life will come down to the quality of your contribution”.
