The Timbavati is a private reserve which lies on the Western border of the Kruger National Park, and north of the well known Sabi Sands Reserve. With unfenced borders between all the reserves the wildlife moves freely, and the Timbavati has excellent Big 5 game viewing. The area is also famous for the White Lion, which were discovered in the reserve in the 1970’s. People come from all over the world to see these impressive animals.
The Timbavati is a vast area that has only ever been very lightly inhabited. Even today, with the addition of luxury lodges, you are still able to find yourself in real African wilderness. “Savanna bushveld” typically describes the vegetation and landscape. It makes for ideal game viewing.
A very dry winter climate allows you to take advantage of the waterholes and the game that gathers. Magic afternoon thunder storms add to the excitement of tracking the game on summer days!
There are excellent private safari lodge options in the Timbavati. The reserve has made an effort in keeping the number of lodges that operate to a minimum, therefore reducing the number of visitors. This helps for overall sustainability of the area, and means a more controlled impact on the wildlife and vegetation.
